Elected Officials Academy

Welcome to the Elected Officials Academy

As a newly elected official, you automatically become a member of the Elected Officials Academy! As you continue expanding your understanding of local issues to best serve your community, the Elected Officials Academy is here to link you with exclusive educational opportunities – and recognize your efforts along the way.

The EOA is a free program designed to encourage elected officials to pursue education on topics critical to governing their city or village, and to participate in a variety of leadership roles. Officials are recognized as they complete each of three levels in the Academy. Participation in these core activities provides officials with the tools they need to make sound decisions affecting their community’s future.

Earn credits by taking League and other courses, attending conferences, serving on committees, advocating on League issues and more.

How the EOA Works

Earn credits. Grow as a leader. Advance through the Academy.

EOA recognizes your continued learning, involvement, and leadership through five credit categories. As you earn credits, you progress through four levels of recognition. There are five ways to earn EOA credits:

  • Core Summit
Build a strong foundation for elected service at the Core Summit, offered twice each year and required to complete Level 1.
  • Elective
Deepen your knowledge through additional League trainings and other qualifying educational programs beyond the Core Summit and conference events.
  • Conference
Learn alongside municipal leaders at qualifying conferences, including League events such as CapCon and Convention, as well as other approved conferences.
  • Advocacy
Put your voice to work through legislative advocacy and education activities focused on issues affecting your community and local government.
  • Leadership
Expand your impact through leadership and service beyond your elected position, including roles within the League, your community, and other qualifying organizations.

Your Path Through the EOA

As you earn credits across the five EOA categories, you move through four levels of recognition that reflect your continued growth as an elected leader.

Level 1: Education Award
Build your foundation by completing the Core Summit and earning credits through education, conferences, and advocacy.

Level 2: Leadership Award
Continue expanding your knowledge and involvement while taking on additional leadership and advocacy opportunities.

Level 3: Governance Award
Demonstrate a deeper level of engagement through continued learning, leadership, advocacy, and service.

Level 4: Ambassador Award
The highest level of EOA recognition, Level 4 goes beyond earning credits. Eligible officials complete an application and portfolio that highlight their leadership, service, and contributions to their community and the League. Ready to learn more about Level 4? Review eligibility, application requirements, deadlines, and portfolio guidance.

Celebrate Your Achievement at Capital Conference

Each EOA level is a milestone worth recognizing. When you complete a level, the League celebrates your achievement at Capital Conference alongside other elected officials advancing through the Academy.

Track Your EOA Progress

You can track your progress through the Elected Officials Academy by logging in to your account on the League portal. Your EOA record shows the credits you’ve earned and how close you are to reaching the next level of recognition.

Once you’re logged in, use the navigation menu on the left side of your profile and scroll to Elected Officials Academy (EOA). From there:

  • Select Credit Profile to view the credits you’ve earned and your progress toward the next EOA award level.
  • Select Add/Report Credits to submit qualifying activities completed outside the League for EOA credit.
  • Select EOA Home to return to the Elected Officials Academy website.

Credits from eligible League activities—such as Summits, CapCon, Convention, and League trainings—are added to your record automatically. Please allow time after an event for those credits to appear.

If you complete a qualifying activity outside of the League, you can submit it for EOA credit through your League account.
