No two communities—and no two elected officials—face exactly the same challenges. Elective credits give you the flexibility to continue learning about the subjects most relevant to your role, your community, and your development as a leader.

You can earn Elective credits through additional League trainings and approved educational programs beyond the Core Summit and conference events. League webinars, seminars, online learning, Advanced Summits, and other qualifying educational opportunities all help you continue building your knowledge.

League Education

The League offers a variety of ways to continue building your knowledge throughout the year, including:

• Seminars and workshops
• Webinars
• Advanced Summits
• Online learning courses
• Educational programs offered through League affiliates and partner organizations
• Other qualifying League educational programs

League webinars are generally awarded 1 Elective credit each, and the Advanced Summit provides 9 Elective credits. Full EOA credit is also awarded when you repeat a class.

Education Outside the League

Relevant education offered by other organizations may also qualify for EOA credit. If you’re looking for additional learning opportunities, these are a few places to start:

• Michigan State University Extension — offers a variety of local government education and resources for elected and appointed officials, including programs on planning and zoning, governance, public policy, and other municipal topics. Programs may include opportunities such as the Citizen Planner Program, webinars, and other local government training.
• Michigan Infrastructure Council — offers infrastructure and asset-management education, including a free, self-paced Asset Management Essentials course designed specifically for elected officials and other decision-makers.
• Universities, professional associations, and other local government organizations — webinars, workshops, and educational programs related to your responsibilities as an elected official also qualify.

Full-day programs are generally worth 3 Elective credits, while half-day programs are generally worth 1 Elective credit. Submit the program agenda and proof of attendance through your League account for review and approval.
