Civility-Civility Pledge
Civility is more than just politeness. It is about disagreeing without disrespect. (Civility Institute).)
The National League of Cities (NLC) and several state municipal leagues have been promoting civility pledges, either individually, or collectively as a Resolution adopted by the city or village council. Here is a sample from the Illinois Municipal League:
“In the interest of civility, I pledge to promote civility by listening, being respectful of others, acknowledging that we are all striving to support and improve our community and understanding that we each may have different ideas for achieving that objective.”
