Award Criteria
As part of the League’s 125th-anniversary celebration, the new Emerging Leader Award seeks to recognize and celebrate the achievements of local government officials under the age of 40 from League member communities. This award celebrates the dynamic contributions of diverse leaders from across the state who are dedicated to advancing their communities, exemplify the League’s core values, and inspire others through their vision and drive. The new Emerging Leader Award highlights the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders poised to tackle emerging issues and shape the future in Michigan with creativity, passion, and a deep commitment to their communities.
The first awardee(s) will be selected and honored at the League’s Capital Conference in 2025. Future awardees will be recognized alongside other League awards at Convention beginning in 2026.
Award Eligibility
Nominees must be:
- A local government official under 40 years of age who has demonstrated excellence in leadership
- An active member of the Michigan Municipal League
- From a Michigan Municipal League community
Award Selection
An awards committee consisting of the League president, vice president, executive director, and at least one League past president will serve as the judges.
