Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP)

Deadline: Rolling – final deadline September 30, 2023, unless funds are depleted prior to that date. This is a temporary emergency program to help low-income households pay overdue water and wastewater bills. Michigan received emergency funding from Congress to administer this program that is available to low-income homeowners or renters. Funding is administered through Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to Community Action Agencies (CAAs) statewide.

$25 million in funding for projects to enable communities to utilize solar and solar-plus-storage to prevent disruptions in power caused by extreme weather and other events, and to rapidly restore electricity if it goes down.

Support for local safety planning and safety implementation projects like improving pedestrian or school crossings, updating traffic and street lights, or separating bike lanes. This program provides $5 billion over the next five years in direct support of local governments. Deadline is September 15, 2022.

National League of Cities (NLC) Local Infrastructure Hub

Funded with support from over a dozen philanthropies, the NLC’s Local Infrastructure Hub helps local leaders navigate and understand the large quantities of information from the federal government on the nearly 400 funding opportunities available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. And it will help cities and towns develop competitive funding applications that are most likely to be awarded federal grants. There will be a special focus on helping traditionally underserved cities and towns.
