MML Advocacy Team Gains New Legislative Associate

LANSING, Michigan – The Michigan Municipal League has officially welcomed Dave Hodgkins, who joined the League as a Legislative Associate on the State and Federal Affairs team in early February.

Before joining the League, Hodgkins worked for the government relations firm Midwest Strategy Group. He worked closely with several municipalities on their specific needs and local government groups, including the League, on the broader impact state government has on Michigan’s communities.

Throughout his career in government relations, Hodgkins has led advocacy operations on an extensive portfolio of policy issues ranging from food access to economic development opportunities—elevating communities by expanding access to resources. He also has extensive experience in issue-campaign oversight and coalition building.

Hodgkins began his career serving in the Michigan House of Representatives having worked for two state representatives including former Speaker Pro Tem. John Walsh.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Central Michigan University and has been awarded Outstanding Performance in Team Building and Persuasive Communication from the Dale Carnegie Immersion Seminar.

“On behalf of the entire League, we are proud to welcome Dave to our organization,” said John LaMacchia, Director of the League’s State and Federal Affairs team. “Having known Dave and working with him over the last few years through Midwest Strategy Group, he brings tremendous experience and a knowledge base that will strengthen our team. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our organization, and our members, as we work to create great places.”

As part of the State and Federal Affairs Team, Hodgkins’ areas of focus are: elections, labor, parks and recreation, and assisting with municipal finance, transportation, and public safety.

I’m excited to join an awesome organization and team with a strong history of working to improve Michigan’s communities,” Hodgkins said. “I look forward to working with all the members.”
