FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 11, 2024
Ann Arbor, Mich. – Former League Board of Trustees President Catherine Bostick-Tullius received the League’s Honorary Life Membership Award yesterday, September 10. The award was presented during the board dinner as part of the League’s 2024 Convention on Mackinac Island.
Honorary Life Membership was first awarded in 1932 and is the League’s highest honor. It recognizes the most active and inspiring leaders dedicated to the League and its mission.
“Catherine has helped shape the League’s legacy as an organization that cultivates innovation,” said Dan Gilmartin, Executive Director and CEO of the League. “Her contributions are especially evident through her staunch support of the16/50 Project, which was the first program of its kind when it launched and has been replicated globally. I had the pleasure of working closely with her when she served as our president, and on behalf of the entire League, we are proud to honor her with this award.”
Catherine Bostick-Tullius served on the Lapeer City Council from 2009 to 2019, and as League President from 2017 to 2018. Bostick-Tullius began serving on the Board of Trustees in 2014 and later became the first president from Lapeer in League history. Her tenure as president was marked by a focus on municipal finance reform and enhancing local government resources. She advocated for the League to expedite the launch of the 16/50 Project, aimed at increasing the number of women serving in local government management positions. Since then, the program has helped increase the number of women serving in local government management positions from 16 percent to over 21 percent.
Beyond her role with the League, Bostick-Tullius has had a profound impact on her local community. She has been a Lapeer city commissioner since 2009 and has contributed to various local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Lapeer County Bar Association and the PIX Arts Council. With a legal career spanning nearly three decades, she has continually demonstrated her commitment to public service and community development.
“It is truly an honor to be this year’s recipient of the League’s Honorary Life Membership,” said Bostick-Tullius. “I would like to thank the board for this incredible recognition. My involvement with the League has allowed me to build on professional relationships that still exist today. Our member communities across Michigan, including my own community of Lapeer, benefit tremendously from the League’s zealous advocacy on the issues that are most important to our cities and villages across Michigan. We are fortunate to have such a dynamic and formidable organization that always has our back.”
