ANN ARBOR, Michigan – Westland Mayor and former Michigan Municipal League Board President William Wild recently received the Michael A. Guido Leadership and Public Service Award from the League.

The Guido Award celebrates a chief elected official who personifies professionalism and leadership, is an active League member, is dedicated to the citizens in their community and advocates on their behalf in Lansing and Washington, DC.

“From everyone at the League, I would like to congratulate Bill on receiving this award,” said Dan Gilmartin, CEO and executive director of the League. “It was a pleasure to work with Bill when he served as the League’s Board President. He has created a great impact on Michigan’s communities, we are so proud of what he helped the League accomplish. Additionally, his service to the Westland community makes this award very well-deserved and earned.”

Mayor Wild is Westland’s eighth and longest serving mayor. Mayor Wild served as the president of the Michigan Municipal League Board of Trustees from 2020 to 2021. Mayor Wild serves as the United States Conference of Mayor’s Michigan Ambassador, as co-chair for the USCM Small Business & Entrepreneurship Task Force, and is serving his third term on the Michigan Municipal Risk Authority (MMRMA) Board of Directors.

Prior to becoming Westland’s mayor in 2007, Wild served on the Westland Planning Commission from 1999 to 2001, and on the city council from 2001 to 2006.

Mayor Wild and his wife, Sherri, a seventh-grade science teacher, are longtime residents of Westland and the proud parents of three children: Luke, Lily, and Payton. In his spare time, Mayor Wild, a self-proclaimed ‘West Wing junkie’ enjoys playing hockey, cooking, reading, and attending his children’s after-school activities.

The Guido Award was presented during this year’s Michigan Municipal League Convention taking place in Muskegon.

“It is an absolute amazing honor to be recognized as the MML Michael Guido Leadership Award Winner this year,” said Wild. “Mayor Guido set the standard for responsive, innovative leadership at the local level; to be honored in his name is very humbling.”
