FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 6, 2025

Ann Arbor, Mich. The Michigan Association of Mayors (MAM) has selected Saginaw Mayor Brenda F Moore to serve as its new board president, and Boyne City Mayor Timothy Nemecek as vice president. These one-year appointments were announced during MAM’s annual meeting held on Thursday, September 18, at the Michigan Municipal League League’s 2025 Convention in Grand Rapids.

“Tim and I have a goal to increase membership in the Michigan Association of Mayors,” said Mayor Moore. “This organization is more than what you might think, and we want new people coming in to know all that MAM has to offer. We want new members to feel like they just inherited a new family.”

“The Michigan Association of Mayors is a powerful network of leaders,” said Mayor Nemecek. “One of our top priorities will be to expand membership beyond the one hundred and ten chief elected officials we currently represent. Every additional leader strengthens our collective knowledge, experience, and ability to address the challenges our communities face. I am grateful for the confidence my peers have placed in me, and I am committed to making a meaningful contribution to the Association.”

The Board of Directors also announced one new member: Hudsonville Mayor Mark Northrup, who will serve a three-year term.

“I seek to grow the Michigan Association of Mayors and be involved in it becoming a force for all Michigan communities,” said Mayor Northrup. “It is an honor to join the Board of Directors, and I look forward to increasing membership, giving back to colleagues, and creating a larger impact across the state.”

Harper Woods Mayor Valerie Kindle and Nemecek were also elected for full three-year terms, having joined the Board last November to fill vacancies.

One outgoing board member, Fremont Mayor James Rynberg, was recognized for his service. He had served on the board since 2011, serving as Vice President in 2018 and President in 2019. Rynberg has been the mayor of Fremont since 2004 and on Fremont City Council since 1985. He previously served on its Planning Commission beginning in 1979.
