LANSING, Michigan – The Michigan Municipal League has honored the Elected Officials Academy Advisory Board Vice President and Berkley Councilmember Dennis Hennen with the League’s Elected Officials Academy (EOA) Level Four Ambassador Award. Hennen received the award on March 13,
at the League’s Capital Conference in Lansing.
The EOA is an ongoing four-level program that educates and recognizes elected officials across the state for their dedication to becoming as professional and knowledgeable as possible in the role of public servant. The program was created in 1997 by a board of elected officials working with League staff.
The Ambassador Award is presented each year to participants of the EOA who have completed the fourth and final level of the program. Hennen joins a small number of elected officials who have attained this achievement. Hennen was honored alongside the two other Level Four graduates from this year, Ludington Councilor Kathy Winczewski and Montrose Mayor Colleen Brown, making a total of sixteen Ambassador recipients since the program’s inception.
“Congratulations to Dennis Hennen on this great achievement,” said League Board President Robert E. Clark, Mayor of Monroe. “His work and leadership within a variety of the League’s programming showcases his commitment to supporting his fellow local elected officials and our communities. This
award is another example of his dedication to public service.”
Dennis Hennen serves on the Berkley City Council and was first elected in 2017. His focus is on ensuring constituents are kept informed and their voices are heard. He has received his Master Citizen Planner Certification, serves on the Michigan Municipal League’s Municipal Services Committee, and is Vice
President of the Elected Officials Academy. He is a senior software engineer for Mercury Banking. He supports many local community organizations, and he and his wife, Jennifer, are active members of their church.
“Being an effective leader means being a lifelong learner,” said Hennen. “There’s always something new to discover. The Elected Officials Academy has been instrumental in providing a robust framework upon which I can build to gain the essential knowledge and skills I need to best serve my constituents.”
