FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Nov. 16, 2019

Public Sector Consultants to Unveil Report, New Online Tool Chronicling Loss of Revenue in Michigan Cities

WHAT:            Public Sector Consultants, along with the Michigan Municipal League through its SaveMICity initiative, will debut a report that chronicles the loss of revenue in dozens of Michigan cities due to severe cuts to funding in communities over the last two decades. The event also will feature the unveiling of a new online tool that lists data for more than 220 Michigan cities. Using this tool, users can see what cuts have cost individual cities since 2002. The report is based on data gathered by the Michigan Department of Treasury. The media event will include a short instructional demo of the new online tool.

WHERE:          Michigan Municipal League Lansing office, 208 N. Capitol Avenue, 1st Floor, Lansing, Michigan 48933. Media unable to attend in person can watch the news event live on the League’s Facebook page at facebook.com/MMLeague.

WHEN:           Wednesday, November 20. The event begins at 11 a.m.

WHO:             The event will feature Chris Hackbarth, League Director of State and Federal Affairs, Shanna Draheim, League Policy Development Director, and Tim Dempsey, Vice President at Public Sector Consultants.

WHY:              The report and online tool are designed to further educate Michigan citizens about the disconnect between the state’s economic recovery and local government funding.

The SaveMICity initiative highlights the State of Michigan’s disinvestment in its communities—to the tune of $8.6 billion over the last decade-plus—and why the state should prioritize investing in Michigan’s communities through the budget process.

The League also will offer interview opportunities for interested outlets as required. For additional information, contact the League’s Matt Bach, director of communications, at [email protected] or 810-874-1073.
