Herasanna Richards Joins the Michigan Municipal League’s Advocacy Team

LANSING, Mich. ― Herasanna Richards is joining the Michigan Municipal League’s advocacy team after previously serving as the founding executive director of the Detroit Restaurant & Lodging Association.

Richards is a state affairs legislative associate for the League and advocates on behalf of communities with a concentration on energy, environment, municipal services, and elections.

“We’re pleased to have Herasanna on our team at the League,” said League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin. “She will be a smart and energetic advocate for Michigan’s cities and villages.”

Prior to joining the League, Richards was the founding executive director of the Detroit Restaurant & Lodging Association, a regional chapter of the Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association, where she served as a liaison between members and city and state government interests, improving member relations and participation, and collaborating on workforce training initiatives.

Richards has bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Communication from Michigan State University. She is also a 2017 graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program and a 2019 Front Line Leaders Academy Fellow.

Outside of the League, Richards serves on various boards for Pope Francis Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities – Detroit, and Detroit Young Democrats. Originally from Nashville, TN, she lives with her partner and pup in Detroit.

Chris Hackbarth, director of state and federal affairs for the League, added: “We’re very excited to have Herasanna join our advocacy team. She brings with her a wealth of experience that will aid her in assisting and fighting on behalf of our member communities.”
