Local governments in Southeast Michigan can now apply for grants through the 2026-2027 Southeast Michigan Resilience Fund to support projects that strengthen community resilience, reduce stormwater impacts, improve water quality, restore habitat, and expand access to public natural areas.

Individual grants typically range from $150,000 to $400,000, with most grant funding expected to support on-the-ground project work. A local match is not required, although applicants are encouraged to demonstrate additional support for their projects when possible.

Eligible projects must be located in St. Clair, Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw, Livingston, or Monroe counties. Local and municipal governments are among the eligible applicants.

Funding is available across three project categories:

1. Expanding nature-based solutions and access to nature
2. Improving habitat quality and connectivity
3. Activating restored habitats and natural areas

Communities considering an application should review the 2026-2027 Request for Proposals for complete eligibility requirements and project guidance.

Applicants can also participate in a workshop on Sept. 17 to discuss project concepts with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and its field liaisons and receive assistance ahead of the deadline.

Full proposals are due Oct. 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Awards are expected to be announced in March or April 2027.
