This afternoon the Senate Tax Policy committee considered several pieces of legislation. One bill, SB 25, creates an appeal process through the Department of Treasury to allow consideration of retroactive reimbursement for more than 3 years of a principle residence exemption if the mistake is made by the tax collecting unit. The League opposes this legislation.
The panel also considered SB 113, a bill that would require conservation easements that pass by will to be exempted from the pop up. While we don’t know how many properties this would affect, we do have concerns about the continued piece meal tax exemptions being pushed onto local units by legislation. As a result the League opposed the legislation.
