Senate Committee Votes to Limit the Use of the Michigan Waterways Fund

Posted on March 18, 2013 by Dene Westbrook

The Senate Outdoor Rec and Tourism Committee has voted to move legislation forward that would restrict the use the the Michigan Waterways Fund. As a potential short-term solution for the dredging needs in Michigan Senate Bill 249 would restrict 50% of the funds in the Waterways Account to be used for dredging or harbor maintenance. The fund would be restricted for three years between 2015 and 2018 potentially limiting other projects from moving forward during this time. The Michigan Municipal League does not support restricting this fund and believes that all communities should have equal access to funds available.
