Cancer presumption legislation in Senate committee next week

Posted on April 20, 2012 by Dene Westbrook

On Wednesday, April 25 the Senate Economic Development Committee will be taking up SB 94, a bill that creates a cancer presumption for firefighters.

This legislation has passed the House the last two sessions, and it would increase municipal costs an estimated 10 to 25 percent per community at a time when revenues are down and the legislature is also considering a repeal of personal property tax.

This legislation isn’t about pitting communities against firefighters. The issue here is increasing the cost of workers’ compensation until the point that it is unaffordable or even unavailable.

It’s important to contact your Senators and ask for their no vote no this legislation.
