Land Division Act Amended to Allow More Splits

The League was proud to support Public Act 58 of 2025, signed in to law in late December, amending the Land Division Act to increase the number of allowable splits of a parent parcel. These changes support the MML’s pro-housing policy work.
Previously, the act allowed for up to 4 splits of the first 10 acres of a parent parcel. PA 58 expands this number to allow for up to 10 splits of the first 10 acres of a parent parcel. This change takes effect on March 24, 2027.
PA 58 also allows a municipality or county to authorize by ordinance further splitting of a parcel into a greater number of parcels as long as it complies with the standards set forth in an ordinance of the municipality or county having authority to approve or disapprove a division under section 109(1). This change takes effect on March 24, 2026.
The League thanks Senator Kevin Hertel and Representative Jay DeBoyer for working with us and incorporating feedback provided by League members in to the final bill signed by the governor.
