This morning Governor Snyder presented his 2014 budget recommendations. The recommendations include increased funding for transportation but no increase for the economic vitality and incentive program (EVIP).
You can view the recommendations on the State Budget Office’s website.
The budget includes the Governor’s proposal for an additional $1.2 billion in transportation funding. This revenue will be increased by increasing the gas tax and registration fees. Those bills were introduced last week. The League supports this incresae in funding, and we will continue to push for changes to the PA 51 formula as well to divert additional funds to communities.
There is no increase in the statutory EVIP program. While constitutional revenue sharing is increasing by 4 percent, the Governor is not recommending an increase in the EVIP program.
The Governor is, however, recommending a 2 percent increase to K-12 education, universities and community colleges.
