Yesterday, inside Detroit’s Fire Engine House 52, the Governor signed the $59 billion omnibus budget passed by the Legislature in late June. The League’s Executive Director and CEO, Dan Gilmartin, attended the signing along with several mayors.

As a reminder, this year’s budget significantly increased revenue sharing and created a new dedicated pot of resources for public safety. Now that the Governor has signed the budget, we expect Treasury to release revenue estimates in the next week or so. Once Treasury posts its estimates, we will share that information with our members.

While we are thankful for the increased revenue sharing in the budget, we must still focus on and work to implement the revenue-sharing trust fund policy. The trust fund will provide predictability and investment for local budgets. We encourage you to reach out to your legislators and express to them the importance of this.
