ACTION REQUIRED BEFORE 4/4/2022: DUNS Numbers Being Replaced by UEI

Posted on March 15, 2022 by Dene Westbrook

MDOT has asked that we remind you that in April 2022, the Federal government will stop using the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) to uniquely identify entities registered in the System for Award Management (www.SAM.gov). At that point, entities doing business with the Federal government will be required to use a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) created in www.SAM.gov. Entities will no longer have to go to a third-party website to obtain their identifier. This transition will streamline the entity identification and validation process, making it easier and less burdensome to do business with the Federal government. The DUNS number will remain the official identifier through April 3, 2022.

If you haven’t already obtained your UEI number, go to www.SAM.gov and register. Agencies that do not have a UEI number as of April 4, 2022 may not be able to have federal funds obligated for their projects.

A list of local agencies has been provided by MDOT identifying who still needs a UEI# according to their records is below. Once you have obtained your UEI#, please email the number and associated physical mailing address to Michele Conklin at [email protected] and Tracie Leix at [email protected].
