The Michigan Municipal League applauds the Detroit Regional Chamber’s position on the State of Michigan’s recent response to the spike in COVID-19 cases. Like the Chamber, we respect the fine leadership that Governor Whitmer has provided as she prioritizes public health for the benefit of all. And we both recognize the important role Michigan businesses play in our economy and the communities they serve.

Local government, like state government, is doing its job by helping residents, businesses, and the institutions that comprise a healthy and thriving community. Local leaders know that supporting business and the health of residents has to be complementary, not conflicting, because you can’t have one without the other.
