NEW! MDOT Issues Policy on Authority to Close Trunkline Bridges During Construction

Posted on July 15, 2020 by Dene Westbrook

As a follow-up to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation and report on the Florida International University pedestrian bridge collapse in Miami, Florida, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has issued a policy to address recommendations made in Accident Report NTSB/HAR-19/02.

This policy applies to all trunkline bridges under MDOT jurisdiction. MDOT recommends all owners of bridges in use by the public in the state of Michigan consider adopting this policy, or something similar that outlines the responsibilities and procedures to address issues with bridges under construction.
