Michigan Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Fund Sub Grants for Public Safety

Posted on July 9, 2020 by Herasanna Richards

The Michigan Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program will provide funding to assist eligible state departments, local units of government, and tribes in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the coronavirus. These grants are available only to communities that did not receive direct allocations for the Department of Justice’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplement Funding Program.

Allocations for the CESF program are formula based. Local communities may not apply for an amount greater than their listed allocation provided by the Michigan State Police, Grants and Community Services Division.

Allocations will go to local public safety departments and can be found here. Municipal courts are also eligible for a direct allocation which can be found here.

You can start here to begin your application. If you have any questions about the MI CESF Program, you can contact Nancy Becker Bennett at or 517-898-9496 or [email protected].

Our ServeMICity Initiative is also available to provide technical assistance to communities as they complete their application. You can contact Shanna Draheim at [email protected] for more information.

MML, the Michigan Association of Counties, and the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration will be hosting a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Town Hall on July 23rd. We will briefly review the grants with MSP Grants Division Director Nancy Becker Bennett, and later explore how local communities can using the funding to improve operational efficiency, streamline services, reduce the jail population, and other strategies that will pay dividends beyond COVID-19. You can register for the webinar here.
