Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee Passes Budget Without New Funding for Roads

Posted on April 11, 2013 by Dene Westbrook

Today the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee voted out the fiscal year 2013-14 transportation budget without the $1.2 billion the Governor has proposed in new funding. Senator Papageorge, Chairman of the subcommittee, explained that the debate on new funding was still ongoing and that he is committed finding a way to fix Michigan’s road. At this time he felt it was best to pass the budget without the Governor’s recommendations but does have an alternative budget prepared for when there is an agreement on new revenue for roads.

The Michigan Municipal League will be monitoring this issue very closely. We will be advocating for the protection of current funding and an increased share of any new revenue to ensure that our members can create vibrate communities for their residents to enjoy.

John LaMacchia is a Legislative Associate with the League handling transportation issues. He can be reached at [email protected] or 517-908-0303.
