Federal Marketplace Fairness Act – Online Sales Tax Bill – Senate Vote Coming Soon!
By: Dene Westbrook, March 22, 2013

We understand that the U.S. Senate is voting on an Amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution which will support the Marketplace Fairness Act either today, or over the weekend. The Amendment would bring sales tax parity with online retailers by allowing states to collect sales taxes on internet transactions. It is being sponsored by Senator Durbin (D-IL) and is more of a “test” vote, since a Budget Resolution is a non-binding agreement. However, if there are more than 60 votes for the Amendment, that will be a good signal that the votes are there to pass the actual legislation. Senators Stabenow and Levin indicated their support for the measure, but they need to hear from you. Contact them and let them know how  important Marketplace Fairness is to your community.
