House committee passes public employee disclosure bill

Posted on March 6, 2012 by Dene Westbrook

This afternoon the House Oversight, Reform and Ethics committee passed HB 5196, a bill creating the Public Employee Compensation Disclosure Act. The committee passed bill may be viewed here: HB 5196 h-1.pdf (10.83 kb)

The committee passed version requires a public employer to either submit to the state or post on its website employee compensation information including (for each job classification): the number of full-time employees, the total wages of all the employees, the total cost of benefits for all the employees and terms of a severance agreement.

The League testified in opposition to this bill several weeks ago as an unfunded mandate and unnecessary because this information is already publicly available.
