Michigan Municipal League Statement on Governor’s 2021 State of the State Address

The following Michigan Municipal League statement about Governor Whitmer’s 2021 State of the State Address can be attributed to William Wild, Mayor of Westland and President of the League Board of Trustees.

“Communities across Michigan, like schools and local businesses, have suffered the devastating impacts of this pandemic all while being on the frontlines of the response. Our police officers and firefighters, road workers and water plant operators, managers and elected officials, every day for nearly a year now have helped protect the health and well-being of their residents. Michigan’s recovery is inextricably linked to the success of our schools, business, and communities, and it is imperative that our state leaders work together to provide needed relief and investment in each of these areas.

“The Governor’s comments tonight represent the beginning of this conversation, but more still needs to be done to support our communities on this path to recovery. We look forward to partnering with Governor Whitmer and lawmakers on a comprehensive recovery plan that invests in our local communities and ensures they have the resources needed to consistently deliver critical services to residents and businesses.”
