To help eligible local governments navigate the First Responder Training and Recruitment Grant, the Michigan Department of Treasury has developed a frequently asked questions document<\/a> to ensure eligible recipients receive their much-deserved grant checks.<\/p>\n

In an effort to help local units of government address critical needs in recruiting and training first responders, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Public Act 87 of 2021<\/a> that appropriates $5 million to create the First Responder Training and Recruitment Grant Program.<\/p>\n

All Michigan cities, villages, townships, counties, or fire authorities are eligible to apply for a grant of up to $200,000 related to first responder recruitment and training. Awards to any one applicant shall be no more than $100,000 for recruitment and no more than $100,000 for training programs. First responders are police officers, firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), paramedics, and the local unit of government corrections officers.<\/p>\n
