{"id":8495,"date":"2022-01-26T21:31:22","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T01:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.mml.org\/wp\/inside208\/?p=8495"},"modified":"2022-01-26T21:31:22","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T01:31:22","slug":"governor-whitmer-delivers-her-fourth-state-of-the-state-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2022\/01\/26\/governor-whitmer-delivers-her-fourth-state-of-the-state-address\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Whitmer Delivers Her Fourth State of the State Address"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Whitmer delivered her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/whitmer\/0,9309,7-387-90499_91277---,00.html\">2022 State of the State speech<\/a> virtually on Wednesday evening, highlighting her accomplishments from the past year and focusing on a few key goals for the coming, election year.<\/p>\n<p>While there were no specific programs targeted at local governments, <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/01\/26\/file_attachments\/2059427\/SOTS%20Pamphlet%20FINALIZED%20%281%29.pdf\">the Governor did focus on investments in infrastructure and the need to continue to pursue additional investments<\/a> with the state&#8217;s available American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allotments.<\/p>\n<p>During the speech, the Governor <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/MIEOG\/2022\/01\/26\/file_attachments\/2059448\/SOTS%20Fact%20Sheets%20FINAL%20FINAL.pdf\">announced five new initiatives:<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eliminating the income tax liability for public pensions<\/li>\n<li>Increasing the state&#8217;s Earned Income Tax Credit from the current 6% of the federal credit to 20%<\/li>\n<li>A training a recruitment program to attract more mental health professionals to Michigan<\/li>\n<li>Capping insulin prices<\/li>\n<li>Funding a state level rebate for electric vehicle purchases, on top of the federal rebate, and an additional rebate for at-home charging infrastructure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many of the details surrounding these announcements and the potential budget impacts will be released in the coming weeks and as part of the early February release of the Governor&#8217;s Fiscal Year 2022-23 Executive Budget recommendation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chris Hackbarth is the League\u2019s director of state &amp; federal affairs.
