{"id":6901,"date":"2019-11-11T10:50:46","date_gmt":"2019-11-11T14:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.mml.org\/wp\/inside208\/?p=6901"},"modified":"2019-11-11T10:50:46","modified_gmt":"2019-11-11T14:50:46","slug":"2020-public-works-project-of-the-year-awards-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2019\/11\/11\/2020-public-works-project-of-the-year-awards-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Public Works Project of the Year Awards Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Michigan Chapter of APWA is now accepting award applications for the <strong>2020 Public Works Project of the Year Awards competition<\/strong>.\u00a0This prestigious award program gives Michigan communities an opportunity to highlight and celebrate their achievements in many facets of public works:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Disaster or Emergency Construction\/Repair<\/li>\n<li>Environment<\/li>\n<li>Governmental Cooperation<\/li>\n<li>Historical Restoration\/Preservation<\/li>\n<li>Quality of Life<\/li>\n<li>Structures<\/li>\n<li>Transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apwa.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bf72dfc8b8e746fc9bac3f59c&amp;id=66d7e36929&amp;e=3c5af49efa\">nomination form<\/a> and project submittals are due by January 15, 2020, midnight EST<\/strong>.\u00a0 Eligibility requirements, application details, and category descriptions are listed on the nomination form.\u00a0 Electronic submittals will be accepted <a href=\"https:\/\/apwa.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bf72dfc8b8e746fc9bac3f59c&amp;id=98413fc8b0&amp;e=3c5af49efa\">here<\/a>. <strong>No hard copies will be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winning projects will be recognized at the APWA annual state chapter conference banquet to be held the week of <strong>May 18, 2020 at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI<\/strong>.\u00a0 Additionally, the Michigan Chapter will display winning project information on their <a href=\"https:\/\/apwa.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bf72dfc8b8e746fc9bac3f59c&amp;id=06257cefd7&amp;e=3c5af49efa\">homepage<\/a>, will highlight the project winners in the Great Lakes Reporter, their quarterly chapter magazine, and will help in publicizing the community\u2019s award by various means including press releases and public meeting award presentations.<\/p>\n<p>The winning projects will be nominated to the National APWA Awards Program, if in an eligible category.\u00a0 Project submittals are due to APWA National by March 2, 2020.\u00a0 The national winners will be named and recognized at the 2020 PWX in New Orleans on August 30- Sept 2, 2020.\u00a0 Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/apwa.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bf72dfc8b8e746fc9bac3f59c&amp;id=459a0b05b3&amp;e=3c5af49efa\">APWA National Website<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n<p>To submitt\u00a0your project for &#8220;Project of the Year,&#8221; you can download and fill out the Nomination Form by clicking<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/apwa.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=bf72dfc8b8e746fc9bac3f59c&amp;id=1061a52457&amp;e=3c5af49efa\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>John LaMacchia is the Assistant Director of State and Federal Affairs for the League handling transportation, infrastructure, energy and environment issues.
