House Bill 4118<\/a> passed the Senate by a vote of 33-4 and is now on its way to the Governor for signature. This bill will rectify an issue that was created in 2016 when legislation that passed, unintentionally eliminated the presumed residential speed limit of 25 mph in a traditional city and village grid system.<\/p>\n

The bill would allow a speed of 25 miles per hour on a highway segment that is part of the local street system as designated by a local\u00a0 jurisdiction and approved by the State Transportation Commission and that is within land zoned for residential use by the governing body of an incorporated city or village under the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, unless another speed is fixed and posted.<\/p>\n

The League fully supports this legislation and thanks the sponsor and our members for their work on this issue. We look forward to the Governor signing this bill and enacting critical fix to address residential speed limits in Michigan.<\/p>\n
