Governor Gretchen Whitmer is speaking at the MML’s 2019 Capital Conference.<\/p><\/div>\n

Michigan Municipal League is very excited to announce that Governor Gretchen Whitmer has accepted our invitation to speak at Capital Conference! In honor of this momentous event, the League is extending the early bird registration deadline to\u00a0midnight, Thursday, March 7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This year’s Capital Conference is March 19-20 and the Governor is scheduled to speak during the opening general session March 19.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, the governor introduced a budget focused on investing in three key areas: infrastructure, education and public health and safety. Her budget is an important acknowledgment of the need to invest in community infrastructure, which is the backbone of economic growth and a key to attracting and retaining talent. Join us for our opening general session during which Governor Whitmer will explain why her budget will put us on the road to opportunity.<\/p>\n

LANSING, Mich. \u2013 Michigan Municipal League Executive Director and CEO Dan Gilmartin issued the following statement about the budget proposal announced today by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.<\/p>\n

\u201cGov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s budget proposal is a comprehensive, bold first step toward addressing a number of problems that have long confronted the state. It provides new and sustainable investment in our broken transportation system, particularly in areas where most Michiganders live, work and play. It begins to reverse years of underfunding of revenue sharing, helping our communities maintain public safety and competing with other states in attracting residents. It boosts the Earned Income Tax Credit, a proven poverty-fighting, economy-growing policy for urban and rural communities. It supports cradle to grave education opportunities, ensuring we have the skills needed to fill jobs today and in the future. <\/em><\/p>\n

This budget is an important acknowledgment of the need to invest in community infrastructure, which is the backbone of economic growth and a key to attracting and retaining talent. We look forward to working with the Governor and the Legislature as this budget moves through the process and highlights the priorities of Michigan\u2019s communities.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>We will be looking for more details in the days ahead, but wholeheartedly agree with Governor Whitmer\u2019s statement that ‘Nobody is going to invest in a state that doesn\u2019t invest in itself.’ \u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
