{"id":6107,"date":"2018-06-08T16:14:47","date_gmt":"2018-06-08T20:14:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.mml.org\/wp\/inside208\/?p=6107"},"modified":"2018-06-08T16:14:47","modified_gmt":"2018-06-08T20:14:47","slug":"conference-committee-passes-transportation-budget-with-300m-more-for-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2018\/06\/08\/conference-committee-passes-transportation-budget-with-300m-more-for-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference Committee Passes Transportation Budget With $300M More For Roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Conference Committee on Transportation unanimously passed the transportation budget that included an additional $300 Million in General Fund revenue for roads.<\/p>\n<p>This money is on top of the $175 million the Governor and legislative leaders put into the roads earlier this year. Under the 2015 road funding plan, the Legislature was required to put an additional $150 million into the roads in FY &#8217;19. This additional $300 million puts that amount to $450 million for FY &#8217;19.<\/p>\n<p>When gas tax money is factored into the equation, $173.3 million is going to the Michigan Department of Transportation, $195.2 million to the county road commissions and $108.8 million to cities and villages under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(buykuuqbnryhqkyd3m01fxlm))\/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&amp;objectName=2018-HB-5572\">HB 5572<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The distribution of the $300M for each city and village can be found at the following link. <a href=\"\/inside208\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/06\/FY19-300M-GF-estimated-allocation-CityVillages.pdf\" rel=\"\">FY19 &#8211; $300M GF estimated allocation &#8211; CityVillages<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a new Community Service Infrastructure Fund has been created within the Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) and includes $3M in on-going funding. This fund will provide matching grants of up to $250,000 for construction and preservation of streets in cities and villages with a population less that 10,000.<\/p>\n<p>It is anticipated that both the House and the Senate will pass this budget next week.<\/p>\n<p><em>John LaMacchia is the Assistant Director of State and Federal Affairs for the League handling transportation, infrastructure, energy and environment issues.
