The House of Representatives voted out\u00a0HB 4522,<\/a>\u00a0a bill providing legislative committees dealing with review of auditor general reports power to subpoena local units of government and schools.<\/p>\n

The ability to subpoena local records is already allowed under Act 118 of 1931 by a resolution of the full house\/senate.\u00a0 This legislation would give authority to the committee that receives and reviews auditor general reports (the Oversight committee in this case) to subpoena witnesses by a vote of the committee \u00a0and not the full house\/senate.<\/p>\n

The League, along\u00a0with the Michigan Townships Association, Michigan Association of Counties, Michigan Sheriff\u2019s Association and school organizations, is\u00a0opposed to this legislation.<\/p>\n
