{"id":2225,"date":"2013-09-23T14:33:52","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T18:33:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.mml.org\/wp\/inside208\/?p=2225"},"modified":"2013-09-23T14:33:52","modified_gmt":"2013-09-23T18:33:52","slug":"first-ppt-fix-bills-pass-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2013\/09\/23\/first-ppt-fix-bills-pass-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"First PPT fix bills pass Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week the Senate passed Senate Bills <a href=\"http:\/\/legislature.mi.gov\/%28S%28glifdj45g2wjww2soaosyvmn%29%29\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectName=2013-SB-0489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">489<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/legislature.mi.gov\/%28S%28glifdj45g2wjww2soaosyvmn%29%29\/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&amp;objectName=2013-SB-0490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">490<\/a>, bills that are the first &#8220;fix&#8221; bills from the personal property tax (PPT) reform package that passed in December. The bills clarify the process for a businesses to claim exemptions under the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The League has been an active part of a drafting group of local government and business representatives who have been working on bills that would clarify the process for claiming PPT exemptions under the new legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning December 31, 2013, businesses will be eligible to claim a &#8220;small parcel&#8221; PPT exemption if the total value of their personal property in a tax collecting unit is $80,000 (true cash value) or less.\u00a0 The remainder of the package does not go into effect until December 31, 2015; however, the package is contingent on the passage of a statewide vote in August 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The League was neutral on the bills as they do reflect the work of the drafting group.
