{"id":2004,"date":"2013-06-04T10:49:57","date_gmt":"2013-06-04T14:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.mml.org\/wp\/inside208\/?p=2004"},"modified":"2013-06-04T10:49:57","modified_gmt":"2013-06-04T14:49:57","slug":"house-begins-discussion-of-scrap-metal-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2013\/06\/04\/house-begins-discussion-of-scrap-metal-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"House Begins Discussion of Scrap Metal Legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning the House Regulatory Reform Committee began hearing testimony on a package of legislation that would crack down on scrap metal dealers to limit scrap metal theft.<\/p>\n<p>House Bills <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/documents\/2013-2014\/billanalysis\/House\/pdf\/2013-HLA-4593-39BE9EC2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4593-95<\/a> were introduced to the committee. The bills seek to close &#8220;loopholes&#8221; in the current scrap metal laws by requiring dealers to keep more detailed records including information of individuals who remit scrap metal as well as a photograph of purchased scrap metal.<\/p>\n<p>In addition the legislation strengthens the &#8220;do not purchase&#8221; list in the current law to add additional requirements.
