{"id":1503,"date":"2012-01-19T15:20:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T20:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/Governor-Snyder-Gives-Second-State-of-the-State-Speech.aspx"},"modified":"2012-01-19T15:20:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-19T20:20:00","slug":"michigan-governor-rick-snyder-gives-second-state-of-the-state-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2012\/01\/19\/michigan-governor-rick-snyder-gives-second-state-of-the-state-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Governor Rick Snyder Gives Second State of the State Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small;font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">During Governor Snyder&rsquo;s second State of the State speech last night he discussed a few issues of importance to local communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">Personal Property Tax: <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">Governor Snyder mentioned the need to eliminate the PPT, but also mentioned the great importance of local communities and the services they provide.&nbsp; He called for an elimination of the PPT while still supporting the necessary local government services like police and fire in our communities.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">Public Safety:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small;font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">The governor mentioned he would be giving a special message on public safety in March.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He stated it is unacceptable for Michigan to have 4 of the top 10 most violent cities in the nation (Detroit, Flint, Pontiac and Saginaw).<span>&nbsp; <\/span>We look forward to seeing what solutions the governor has and how he intends for such initiatives to be funded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\"><strong>Transportation Funding:<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small;font-family: AauxPro OT Regular\">Governor Snyder reiterated the fact that there is a $1.4 billion shortage in funding for our roads.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>There will be a large package of transportation bills introduced in the next few weeks and hearings will start immediately.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He also briefly mentioned a need for a regional transportation authority in Southeast Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">Nikki Brown is the Capital Office Coordinator for the League.&nbsp; She can be reached at <\/span><\/em><a href=\"mailto:nbrown@mml.org\"><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">nbrown@mml.org<\/span><\/em><\/a><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During Governor Snyder&rsquo;s second State of the State speech last night he discussed a few issues of importance to local communities.
