According to Senate Leadership, the Senate Finance Committee intends to introduce legislation to eliminate significant portions of the personal property tax immediately after they return from spring recess. We understand this legislation is molded after the Administration’s proposal to eliminate all manufacturing PPT and portions of commercial PPT over a several year timeframe. If members can plan to come to Lansing and give testimony on the critical nature of this local funding stream and the importance of a guaranteed revenue replacement (which will not be part of the proposal) we expect the hearings to start at 11 am Wednesday April 18, 25 and May 2nd at 12:30. Again, we do not have all details as the bills will be introduced the day before hearings begin. The League has been working with many other organizations who rely on this funding as part of our Replace Don’t Erase Coalition, and will be proposing a Constitutional Amendment to guarantee funding if any part of PPT is eliminated.<\/p>\n
