{"id":1401,"date":"2012-04-16T11:27:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-16T11:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/Federal-Budget-and-deficit-reduction-pass-a-resolution.aspx"},"modified":"2012-04-16T11:27:00","modified_gmt":"2012-04-16T11:27:00","slug":"federal-budget-and-deficit-reduction-pass-a-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2012\/04\/16\/federal-budget-and-deficit-reduction-pass-a-resolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Budget and deficit reduction &#8211; pass a resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Althought&nbsp;the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mml.org\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/House-passes-2013-budget.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mml.org\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/President-Obama-releases-2013.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obama administration <\/a>have each put forward their vision of the federal budget for fiscal year 2013, no one expects much to happen until after the November election.<\/p>\n<p>This of course means election year politics will play a heavy hand in what the presumptive Republican nominee, Governor Romney, and President Obama say over the next six months. It also means that local officials have a great opportunity to speak with their congressional representatives about the 2013 budget.<\/p>\n<p>Members are urged to encourage Congress to take a balanced approach to the budget.&nbsp;&nbsp;Be sure to speak to your representative about the importance of various federal programs you have used to improve quality of living in your community.&nbsp; A sample resolution is also available for councils to adopt.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/advocacy\/inside208\/file.axd?file=2012%2f4%2fdeficit+reduction+resolution_members_november+2011.docx\">deficit reduction resolution_members_november 2011.docx (17.30 kb)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Arnold Weinfeld is Director of Strategic Initiatives and Federal Affairs for the Michigan Municipal League.
