{"id":1368,"date":"2012-05-04T16:25:00","date_gmt":"2012-05-04T16:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/House-committee-to-consider-limiting-local-colocation.aspx"},"modified":"2012-05-04T16:25:00","modified_gmt":"2012-05-04T16:25:00","slug":"house-committee-to-consider-limiting-local-colocation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2012\/05\/04\/house-committee-to-consider-limiting-local-colocation\/","title":{"rendered":"House committee to consider limiting local colocation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday morning the House Energy &amp; Technology Committee will be taking up HB 5342, a bill that would open state police communications towers to colocation for broadband expansion.<\/p>\n<p>As introduced this legislation would allow both public and private entities to colocate for the purpose of broadband expansion; however, a proposed substitute would limit this to only private entities for three years and then allow public entities to colocate only in &#8220;underserved areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You can view the proposed committee substitute here: <a href=\"\/advocacy\/inside208\/file.axd?file=2012%2f5%2fHB+5342.h3.pdf\">HB 5342.h3.pdf (18.05 kb)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The League is a supporter of broadband expansion; however, banning public entities from this colocation seeks to inhibit broadband expansion to only if a private entity decides to expand.
