From the Michigan Department of Treasury:<\/p>\n

The Michigan Department of Treasury is reopening the second round of the Economic Vitality Incentive Program (EVIP) grant award process for the 2012 fiscal year, after Governor Snyder’s signing of a supplemental appropriation which includes an additional $10 million for the popular grant program. The deadline for municipalities to apply for EVIP Grant funding in the 2012 fiscal year was originally June 15th. With the additional $10 million now available, the deadline for applications has been moved to Friday, July 27, 2012<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The EVIP Grant program has been very well received by municipalities around the State,” said Governor Rick Snyder. “Many local units have already benefitted from EVIP Grants, and I’m pleased that we have been able to make another $10 million available this summer.”<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 50 grant applications, requesting $22 million in funding, were  initially submitted to the Department of Treasury, though only $5 million was available. To date, 28 communities have received grant funding this year. With the supplemental appropriation recently approved, nearly $11 million will be made available. $5 million will be designated for the combination of public safety operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor Snyder proposed the EVIP Grant program in his 2012 Executive Budget to provide funding to offset costs for cities, villages, townships, and counties interested in service sharing or consolidation and other cooperative efforts among municipalities. In the 2013 fiscal year, which starts October 1st<\/a>, $15 million will be available through the EVIP Grant program.<\/span><\/p>\n
