{"id":1292,"date":"2012-07-16T15:45:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-16T20:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/Senate-committee-considers-exception-to-government-immunity.aspx"},"modified":"2012-07-16T15:45:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-16T20:45:00","slug":"senate-committee-considers-exception-to-government-immunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2012\/07\/16\/senate-committee-considers-exception-to-government-immunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate committee considers exception to government immunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, July 18 the Senate Energy &amp; Technology Committee is holding a hearing Senate Bills 1083 and 1084,  bills that would create an exception for governmental immunity for a  municipal corporation with respect to its obligations under the MISS-DIG  Act.<\/p>\n<p>The bills as introduced are basically obsolete as we have worked with the Senate and Governor&#8217;s office on a number of drafts over the last two months. Following a workgroup this morning, we are still working on details of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The League opposes a full exception to governmental immunity under the MISS-DIG Act, and we&#8217;ve been working on alternative language. The discussions with the legislature and other interest groups have been productive.
