Today, the Senate Economic Development Committee passed the substitute for SB 1210 (SB 1210 S-1.pdf (179.65 kb)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Because we received the bill last night <\/a>and did not have enough time to get feedback from our members, I testified today simply saying we had no position on the bill.  <\/span>We do feel this is moving in the right direction but we need to make sure any concerns our members may have are weeded out.<\/p>\n

Art Papapanos with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and Kara Wood with the city of Grand Rapids both testified today in support of the bill. We appreciate them coming to Lansing to give community specific testimony and for being involved in the workgroups.<\/p>\n

The plan is to have the bill taken up on the Senate floor in September and amendments offered at that time.  <\/span>Sen. Kowall (the chair of the committee and the sponsor of the bill) expressed a desire to work with the League on concerns our members may have on the floor.  <\/span>We appreciate his willingness and look forward to working with him as the process continues.<\/p>\n
