Deadline for 2023 Local Grade Crossing Surface Program Sept. 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MDOT is now taking\u00a0grant applications to the Local Grade Crossing Surface Program.\u00a0Applications and estimates are due September 29!<\/p>\n<p>New in 2023! The Local Grade Crossing Surface Program is launching a new, entirely online application format with e-confirmation\u00a0of application submission.<\/p>\n<p>The Local Grade Crossing Surface Program provides 60% state funding from \u201coff-the-top\u201d MTF, and requires a 40% railroad match for work to smooth out and repair grade crossing surfaces. There is no financial participation by a local road agency.<\/p>\n<p>The Program to-date (2017-2023) has received over 600 applications and awarded approximately 350 crossing surface improvement projects.\u00a0In the last three years alone, 19 county road agencies have received 47 grants from this program!<\/p>\n<p>All prospective projects require\u00a0an estimate from the railroad, proof of 40% railroad participation and documentation that relevant traffic control plans have been approved by the affected road agency.<\/p>\n<p>There are\u00a0significant public advantages if a proposed project\u00a0can be done in conjunction with adjacent road work, as the entire crossing environment can be enhanced all at one time.
