{"id":1230,"date":"2012-09-20T13:23:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-20T18:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/advocacy\/inside208\/post\/Bills-Dealing-with-Internet-Security-Systems-Pass-Committee.aspx"},"modified":"2012-09-20T13:23:00","modified_gmt":"2012-09-20T18:23:00","slug":"bills-dealing-with-internet-security-systems-pass-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mml.org\/inside208\/2012\/09\/20\/bills-dealing-with-internet-security-systems-pass-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Bills Dealing with Internet Security Systems Pass Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">Today, the Senate Economic Development Committee passed SBs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/documents\/2011-2012\/billintroduced\/Senate\/pdf\/2012-SIB-1291.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1291<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/documents\/2011-2012\/billintroduced\/Senate\/pdf\/2012-SIB-1292.pdf\">1292<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>These bills would provide for regulation of a new product on the market that allows any web access device to be used to remotely control security and other devices (heater\/air conditioner, etc) in a home or business.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The main goal from the industry&rsquo;s perspective is to streamline the registration process to make it easier to get the new product on the market.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>They have indicated they in no way want to get in the way of local fees. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">These bills were introduced yesterday and passed out of committee today.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Due to the short timeframe of what is left for legislative session for the year (they will be in for one more week before going back to their districts until essentially after Thanksgiving), the committee wanted to pass the bills out and work on them over the next few months before the legislature returns at the end of November. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">We appreciate the willingness of the sponsor (Sen. Hildenbrand), the committee chair (Sen.
