The Michigan Department of Treasury is making annual distributions to municipalities and counties that have adult-use marijuana facilities in their jurisdiction that were licensed as of September 30, 2022. The payments consist of taxes and fees collected in the state Fiscal Year 2022 (per MRTMA, Initiated Law 1 of 2018<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Revenue is distributed (after earmarked distributions have been fulfilled) as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a015% to municipalities<\/strong> in which a marijuana retail store or marijuana microbusiness is located, allocated in proportion to the number of marijuana retail stores and marijuana microbusinesses within the municipality.<\/li>\n
  2. 15% to counties<\/strong> in which a marijuana retail store or marijuana microbusiness is located, allocated in proportion to the number of marijuana retail stores and marijuana microbusinesses within the county.<\/li>\n
  3. 35% to the School Aid Fund<\/strong> to be used for K-12 education.<\/li>\n
  4. 35% to the Michigan Transportation Fund<\/strong> to be used for the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Distributions to Local Units of Government<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Cities, villages, townships, and counties will be receiving over $59.5 million under the Act. The distribution rate for FY 2022 adult-use marijuana payments is slightly over $51,800 per licensed marijuana retail store or microbusiness.<\/p>\n

    Each city, village, township, and county will receive a payment based on the number of licensed marijuana retail stores and microbusinesses located within its jurisdiction as of September 30, 2022.<\/p>\n
