Brian Calley outlining the concerns of a new Personal Property Tax (PPT) Reform proposal. The letter states the Coalition is supportive of a solution as long as it provides replacement revenue by a consistent, reliable source. <a href=\"Replace Don&rsquo;t Erase Coalition Sends List of Concerns to Lt. Gov. on PPT Plan\">Read the letter<\/a>. <br \/>The PPT is a tax on business equipment and the effort to reform this tax is one of the most critical issues facing the state and your legislative district &ndash; whether or not to scrap the business personal property tax, and how those revenues should be replaced to continue funding essential local services. Loss of any PPT dollars without full replacement would have a devastating effect on Michigan communities. Full replacement of any eliminated PPT dollars is essential for communities to continue to offer the types of services residents expect, such as police and fire protection, education and other necessary services.<br \/>All signs indicate that the Michigan Legislature would like to complete the personal property tax repeal legislation in lame duck; however, the Michigan Municipal League, along with the Replace Don&#8217;t Erase Coalition, has a number of concerns and questions about the proposal. With only three short weeks (that means 8 days) of lame duck session, there is concern about dealing with such a complex and important issue.
