The Michigan Municipal League recognizes there is a serious need to adequately fund our transportation system. While we have not endorsed a specific plan, we do support new revenue for building a complete transportation system. One of the current proposal being discussed would repeal the gas and diesel tax and remove the 6% sales tax paid at the pump, and replace it with will a tax at the wholesale level and 1% increase to the sales tax. The money generated from the wholesale tax would be used to fund transportation and the 1% sales tax increase would replaces the 6% sales tax at the pump that helps fund locals and schools.<\/p>\n<p>We would encourage you to contact your legislators and let them know that any transportation funding plan that puts local funding at risk must come with a guaranteed replacement.
