Posted on August 6, 2020 by Dene Westbrook

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, at 10 a.m., the Great Lakes Coalition will be hosting its Annual Meeting.  The meeting will be held alternatively as a webinar due to COVID-19.

The featured speakers of the GLC Annual Meeting will be:

  • US Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan)
  • Commissioner Rob Sisson, International Joint Commission
  • State Senator Kim LaSata (R-21st District)
  • Jon Altenberg, Executive Director of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Initiative

The speakers will address the impact that high Lake Levels have on cities and property owners along the Great Lakes.  The impact on Michigan’s and coastal communities’ infrastructure alone is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The Great Lakes Coalition (GLC) is a Michigan non-profit organization whose membership consists of individual coastal property owners throughout the Great Lakes Basin, particularly along the Eastern shore of Lake Michigan. GLC’s purpose is to preserve the shorelines of the Great Lakes.  The GLC targets the causes of erosion or flood damage: water levels, sand supply, and wave action.

The meeting is open to local leaders as well as community members and residents impacted by high waters. You can visit the Great Lakes Coalition website here to register for the webinar.
