House & Senate Committees Look At Allowing Online Voter Registration

Posted on March 12, 2018 by Jennifer Rigterink

Both the House and Senate election committees took up bill packages last week that would allow residents to register to vote online. The legislation, supported by Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, would allow voters to register online at ExpressSOS.com. The system would authenticate identities by matching applicants with their driver’s license information.

The Senate Elections and Government Reform Committee voted 5-0 to report the five bill package of Senate Bill 425, 426, 427, 428 and 429. The legislation now moves to the Senate floor.

The House Elections and Ethics Committee took testimony on the two bill package of House Bill 5548 and 5549, but did not take a vote on the legislation.

The League will continue to track this issue and provide updates as they become available.
